ENTRY WAY REMODEL-WEEK 4

Welcome back to my Entry Way Remodel-Week 4. For week 3 I left off with installing the board and batten.  If you haven’t had a chance to read weeks 1-3 you can catch up here. Week 1, Week 2 and Week 3

Finish Work

Ok remember last week when I said that figuring out the spacing was the most tedious part????  Well, that was a BIG.FAT.LIE!!!!  Finish work is the WORST!!!! It is necessary, but will drain you like no other. So, week 4 was about about spackle, sanding and caulking!

I started off using a block sander, but that takes a lot of time, so I switched to a palm sander which was considerably faster, but also creates a ton of dust. After everything was sanded, vacuumed and wiped clean with a damp cloth it was time to caulk every piece of trim that meets the wall.

I was also able to get the window above the front door framed in craftsman style like I have done throughout the house.  Since it is so high off the ground I painted it ahead of time and then installed and painted it SW Tricon Black. I did not want to spackle and sand the nail holes since the trim was painted ahead of time, so I filled the holes by combining caulking and black paint.  This was probably the scariest aspects of this project. I had my son hold the extension ladder while I was installing.  You probably can’t tell from this picture but this window opens up.  Why? I have no clue!!  One of the joys of owning a builder grade home.
