UPDATING AN OLD OFFICE CHAIR MAT
UPDATING AND OLD OFFICE CHAIR MAT
Ok, ok so this is probably not a project that requires an entire blog post dedicated to it so I will make it short.
I am fortunate enough to be able to work my full-time job from the comfort of my own home. Honestly, I could not be more blessed! This is my workstation for now, but soon will be converting daughter’s room into an office. I have the standard $25 plastic chair mat from Amazon. I figured going with the clear would be the best as you could see the wood floors underneath. Boy was I wrong…. The mat is washed on a weekly basis, however by the end of the week its gross. Dirt and dust get trapped underneath it no matter how many times I sweep, vacuum or mop.
I tried to think of what I could do to make it not such an eyesore. Remember when I stenciled my bathroom floor? I still have the stencils and thought maybe I could primer and paint the mat then stencil them on, but that would be a lot of work! Then I thought about the peel and stick vinyl floor tiles and also decided that too would be more money than I was willing to spend and more work trying to line them up perfectly.
I’ve seen pictures of vinyl mats, more specifically ones that were being used for dogs water/food dishes and underneath highchairs. After searching online I found this Mannington Floor Mat which ironically is the same pattern as my bathroom floor. I ordered it in 4’x4′.
Next, all I had to do was trace out the design and cut with a sharp pair scissors
Voila!
*DISCLAIMER* The chair does not roll as easily on this mat as it does on the plastic mat, but it is not an issue for me and the look of this outweighs the inconvenience. Now if I could just talk my husband into a different chair……..
